PASSION 🔥 FOR POCUS & LIFE ADVENTURES

POCUS

KaLiSCOPE

So why KaLiSCOPE? Sounds like kaleidoscope…? Bingo. We brainstormed up this name ‘x’ years ago (in 2018 to be exact, in case you are reading it in 2050 😛) and kind of let it sit for a while. In the end we decided it’s the perfect one. Life is a dynamic adventure – it surely happens while you are trying to plan for other occurrences. So here you get the KaLiSCOPE – Kasia’s & Livia’s full scope of passionate views on a variety of ever-changing topics.

We surely promise you quite a few glamour shots in 256 shades of gray 😎 (i.e. ultrasound of course). However, this blog is about anything and everything life throws at us. One day we may ponder the meaning of eternity (not really – unless on the note of “WTF…”), while next you may get a dose of our emergency medicine (mostly pediatric) edutainment [read: entertaining education]. Hopefully, it lightens up your day or even inspires you to succeed against all odds!

MANiFESTO

EDUTAiNMENT

We are 100% convinced that “anyone who tries to make a distinction between EDUcation and enterTAINMENT, doesn’t know the first thing about either” (Marshall McLuhan). Laughter is not only a good medicine – it’s also a critical factor in the educational process.

SAYiNG MORE WiTH LESS

Let’s face it – no one these days has the time or the motivation to read lengthy publications. Most people give up after roughly 30 seconds. Hence we’ve embraced the concept of ‘smart brevity’: the art of saying more with less. And when it comes to POCUS, 1 image or a video is worth a 1000 words.

EViDENCE-BASED BUT PATiENT-CENTERED

Our approach to patient care is firmly grounded in evidence, but we always remember that research studies tend to have numerous exclusion criteria. In the end, they offer recommendations for the “average bear.” We must not forget, however, that the patient in front of us may fall outside the scientific definition of the typical. In practice, we use POCUS to help reconcile evidence-based medicine (EBM) with the needs of the individual patient.
