Today, on June 28th, 2026 – Vlada would have been 32… But she is 28 forever…
Bright and beautiful young Ukrainian doctor Vladyslava Chernykh put her dreams and professional aspirations on hold to defend her homeland and serve her country. A talented artist with the soul of a warrior… Multilingual world traveler, PhD student and internal medicine physician… As russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine, she voluntarily became a combat medic and drone operator, serving with Khartiia in her home region of Kharkiv. She was killed in action on December 28th, 2022, in Bakhmut.
Vlada was one of my first military POCUS students in Ukraine 🇺🇦. Without doubt, her memory has inspired many of my Ukrainian teaching endeavors and international instruction on wartime medicine. Hence I am both honored and immensely humbled to make this announcement today, on Vlada’s heavenly birthday.
With her Mom’s blessing and full support the Українські 🦇 кажани POCUS PROJECT [UKR. Ukrainian bats] will, from this day forward, bear the name of VLADYSLAVA CHERNYKH in memoriam. May her soul and her spirit of an eager learner motivate our students in Ukraine and inspire our kind supporters globally.
I will soon share more about this project, but today let us simply remember Vlada, offer a warm thought, or perform a meaningful act of support for the brave Ukrainians who continue to amaze us all!
